Biometric Data Policy

Updated: June 4, 2021

The document sets forth Wonolo Inc.’s (“Wonolo”) policy and procedures with respect to the collection, use, and retention of biometric data.

Biometric Data Defined

As used in this policy, biometric data includes “biometric identifiers” and “biometric information.”  “Biometric identifier” means a retina or iris scan, fingerprint, voiceprint, or scan of hand or face geometry. “Biometric information” means any information, regardless of how it is captured, converted, stored, or shared, based on an individual’s biometric identifier used to identify an individual.

Wonolo’s Collection & Use of Biometric Data

Wonolo and its vendor, Amazon Web Services, Inc. (“Vendor”), collect, retain, and use biometric data for the purpose of verifying the identity of individuals who use or have used the Wonolo Mobile Application (“Wonoloers”) to find jobs posted by third-party businesses (“Customers”).  More specifically, (i) for safety and security reasons, (ii) to verify Wonoloers’ use of the Wonolo service and the jobs they have completed, and to help resolve disputes regarding same, and (iii) in an effort to prevent and combat fraud, Wonolo and/or its Vendor may compare photo imagery of Wonoloers from Wonolo’s timekeeping technology with Wonoloers’ profile imagery to confirm their identities using facial recognition technology.  This process involves detecting and comparing Wonoloers’ faces from the imagery through the use of biometric data, such as facial geometry.  Both Wonolo and its Vendor may have access to such biometric data.  To the extent required by law, Wonolo will obtain your informed consent before collecting, using, or retaining your biometric data.

Safeguarding & Storage

In circumstances where Wonolo retains biometric data, Wonolo will use a reasonable standard of care to store, transmit, and protect it from disclosure.  Storage, transmission, and protection from disclosure shall be performed in a manner that is the same as or more protective than the manner in which Wonolo stores, transmits and protects from disclosure other confidential and sensitive information used to uniquely identify an individual.

Retention & Destruction

Wonolo will permanently destroy your biometric data, and will request that its Vendor permanently destroy your biometric data, when the initial purpose for collecting or obtaining the data has been satisfied, or within three (3) years of your last interaction with Wonolo, whichever occurs first, unless a longer period is permitted under applicable law or regulation.
