[Update: As of 10/1/22, Wonolo will no longer be providing financial assistance for COVID-19 related absences or quarantines. We will still continue to assist Wonolers to ensure that any Wonoler who is diagnosed and forced to withdraw from a job late will not be penalized.]

[Update: As of 2/1/23 the Flexible Time Off (FTO) program has been discontinued.

To help Wonoloers who use our platform respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are taking immediate action in three ways:

  1. We are expanding our Flex Time Off (FTO) program to all Wonoloers retroactively. This will preclude Wonoloers, sick or otherwise, from having to face deciding whether to earn a paycheck or go to the doctor
  2. We will pay Wonoloers for up to 10 days of quarantine
  3. We are excusing late withdrawals for sick Wonoloers

We’re doing this because, as part of our daily conversations with the Wonoloers who use our platform, we constantly hear Wonolo is often a lifeline for them and their families; the coronavirus threatens that lifeline and we want to do our part to help them manage this scary and uncertain time.

Expanding Paid Flex Time Off

Before diagnoses of the coronavirus were confirmed in the U.S., we announced a new set of perks and portable benefits so Wonoloers would have the opportunity to take time off, to go on vacation, or to manage a last-minute emergency without worrying about lost earnings.

That program was initially only available to select Wonoloers, but we’re now making it available to every worker who uses Wonolo. This will preclude Wonoloers, sick or otherwise, from having to face deciding whether to earn a paycheck or go to the doctor.

Paying Quarantined Wonoloers

We know the number of people being quarantined is growing and likely will continue to grow in the weeks ahead, so we’ll be paying Wonoloers for up to 10 days of quarantine due to receiving a positive diagnosis for COVID-19. Wonoloers who use our platform get paid by the hour, so the amount they’ll be paid will be proportional to the amount of work they do on our platform.

Excusing Late Withdrawals

Under our normal policy, Wonoloers who withdraw from a job 12 hours before they’re expected to work may be restricted from accessing work in the future.

In order to protect the Wonolo community and make sure people do not show up to work feeling sick, we will excuse late withdrawals for illnesses–including taking care of a direct family member.

Wonolo Employees Encouraged to Work Remotely

Since last month, we’ve had a preparedness team in place to help Wonolo navigate the coronavirus. We have some built-in advantages that make it easier for us, as employees of Wonolo, to successfully work amid crises like the coronavirus.

We are already built for the Future of Work – dozens of our more than 200 employees in North America work remotely. They’re an effective, integrated part of the Wonolo team.

We have also always encouraged employees to work remotely. For example, every Friday, everyone who wants to can work from home. But effective immediately, we’re asking all employees to work from home until further notice and to cancel all work related travel.

We’ve been monitoring official government channels for additional information and will continue to do so in the days and weeks ahead.
