Wonolo

Let’s meet Sarah!

Hi I’m Sarah! I am a Senior Program Manager on our Revenue Strategy and Operations team, and I’m based in Phoenix, Arizona.

What was the first thing that caught your eye about Wonolo?

I was initially drawn to the mission-driven work that Wonolo is doing based on what I was seeing online. It looked to me like Wonolo was mission-driven and prioritized culture. Both of those are really important to me, but I wanted to hear it directly from the source. I reached out to a former colleague and we chatted about his experience at Wonolo. From what he said, that confirmed to me that my impression of Wonolo from their online presence was exactly what I was going to get in real life. The team is mission-driven. The culture is strong. After that conversation, I was convinced and I had to apply.

What was unique about your interview process at Wonolo compared to other jobs you interviewed for?

I had a really positive interview experience. To start with, the recruiting team is so organized. I was never in the dark at any point throughout my interview experience. They are communicative, they set expectations, and you feel supported throughout the entire process. It’s very clear that they care deeply about the candidate’s experience. The other thing that stood out to me was how authentic the interviews felt. The team was transparent and candid during each interview. Of course, there were questions about my skillset and what are my strengths and my gaps. But more than that, the team also wanted to get to know me as a person.

What made you decide to join Wonolo?

I joined Wonolo for three reasons. The first reason is the team. I left the interview feeling confident that this is a team that I would love working with. Second is the work. I knew that I would be able to help solve hard but important challenges and that excites me, especially in such a mission-driven environment. The last reason was that throughout the interview process it became clear to me that this was an environment where I would be set up to grow. A couple of reasons why I came to that conclusion was that it seemed to me like calculated risks were encouraged, and that’s true. I don’t think we use the word fail at Wonolo. We learn together and we grow. The second reason was that I was just really impressed with the team. I knew that if I joined, I would be working with a team of smart, talented individuals that would challenge me and help me keep improving.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I’m passionate about outdoor sports. I do a lot of trail running in Arizona. Arizona has an amazing trail network. I dabble in surfing and skiing. I wouldn’t say I’m very good at either of them, but I love them both. One of the things I really love about Wonolo is that it is a remote-first company and that gives me the flexibility to still pursue my hobbies and passions outside of work. Not commuting to the office, I get an hour back in my day and I can take that hour and go for a trail run. I’ve also had the opportunity to go work from a surf spot and then after work, I went for a surf session. I value working in an environment where not only am I able to do the things that I love, but it’s encouraged. Teammates really take an active interest in your hobbies and interests outside of work.
