About AVID Logistics
AVID Logistics believes that 3PLs (third party logistics companies) are limited by their “cookie-cutter approach.” Traditional 3PLs try to apply the same fulfillment model to every company regardless of their needs. AVID set out to make logistics sexy. They flipped the traditional 3PL model on its head when they launched with a fully custom solution for each customer. Their premium service provides not only an end-to-end white glove fulfillment solution, but also offers custom manufacturing, web design, and freight forwarding, in addition to an open API to integrate with their customers’ existing technology.
With so many satisfied customers, AVID Logistics’ business was growing rapidly. In order to keep up with demand, AVID sought out help from numerous traditional temp staffing agencies. The challenge for CEO Patrick Graves with the traditional staffing agencies was the same one he saw in traditional 3PLs. Their “one-size fits all” approach wasn’t right for his business.
With high profile customers including celebrities, AVID Logistics needed to be certain their jobs were going to be done, and done well. Patrick shared, “When we had big jobs, the temp agencies would fall short on delivering the number of workers we needed, or they wouldn’t have the quality we expected. Often times, they fell short on both.”
The biggest challenge was there was no transparency in the process of temp staffing, so we couldn’t properly plan our operations.
When AVID Logistics first heard of Wonolo’s presence in the staffing space, Uber’s presence in the taxi space immediately came to mind. In addition, the Uber-like tech benefits of the website and mobile app allowed him to always have full transparency into what was happening at any moment. Posting a Job Request on Wonolo was night and day compared to traditional agencies: the technology in Wonolo’s platform made posting easy and a set-it-and-forget-it process. In the past I was too hesitant with traditional temp agencies. I may not get the 30 people I need, and even if I do, I can’t trust that they will deliver the experience our customers expect.
Wonolo has unlocked the opportunity for AVID Logistics to aggressively market themselves and go after more jobs. AVID works with a lot of customers whose demands ebb and flow. For example, subscription box companies may only ship out 1 week per month. For these demand spikes AVID uses Wonolo to supplement permanent staff when there is a need to increase production without the cost of idle hands waiting for the next order. AVID Logistics recently opened a new facility which is three times the size of their previous location.
