Yes — if you want them to be. If you post a job that requires a background check, a worker will not be able to perform that job until they have completed the background check. For many customers, the background check is an important part of our onboarding process that we take seriously.
The background check typically includes a Public Records Search, Sex Offender Registry (where permitted), Domestic & Global Terrorist Watchlist Search, National Criminal Screen, and County Court Search(es).
We do not provide workers compensation for 1099 Wonoloers. Wonoloers are independent contractors and there is no employment contract of any kind — direct, implied, or otherwise — between Wonolo and the Wonoloers.
We do not, however, let a Wonoloer accept any job unless she or he is covered by Occupational Accident Insurance. This insurance is at no cost to the business. The amount is based on the amount of time spent on the worksite.
Occupational Accident Insurance is designed to cover medical expenses and related benefits including death for accidental injuries arising out of the course and scope of the work undertaken.
Customers have access to a customer portal where posting jobs is fast and easy. Simply enter the pay rate, start time, location, and job description with any specific requirements (such as ability to lift 50 lb). Our proprietary ranking algorithm surfaces your job posting to the best matches. Both last-minute and temp-to-perm jobs are filled in less than 5 minutes on average.
This feature, which you’ll see on the platform once you’re all set up, enables you to give one or more workers priority access to your job posting an hour before others. This greatly increases the likelihood that your favorite workers will accept your job again.
